About Amc Pacer

The AMC Pacer was an American compact car produced by the American Motors Corporation. Though the design of the car was established in 1971, it was manufactured from 1975 to 1980. It was a two door car with an unusual round 'Fish Bowl' design. These cars were available in a multitude of colors, which made them icons during the 1970s. The AMC Pacer was designed to look futuristic. It was supposed to be a compact car; however it was almost as wide as any normal American full-sized car. One of the Pacer's most unusual features was its doors wherein the passenger's door was four inches longer than that of the driver's door. This was incorporated so as to encourage rear seat passengers to enter the vehicle from the safer side. It was also one of the first cars produced in America which featured rack-and-pinion steering. Another versatile feature of the AMC Pacer was its efficient body design which had a drag coefficient of only 0.32; this was quiet fantastic for a substantially large car made during that time. Since the time it was launched, the Pacer has sold around 145,528 units. It met the demand for smaller cars during the oil crisis in the U.S. In 1976, the Pacer was available with a better version of the 258 in³ engine and then, in 1978, a more efficient 304 in³ V8 engine. The pacer had a few drawbacks with its design and lack of cargo space, topped with lack of power, made the AMC Pacer's sales in foreign markets very vulnerable. The companies 'Small but Wide' formula didn't do well, considering it as a compact car.
