About Bmw M3

German Company, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, (Bavarian Motor Works), launched a sports edition of the popular compact BMW 3-Series car, the BMW M3. The first version was produced in late 1980s, followed by numerous successors to the series. The M3 is derived from the 1986 model of the E30 3-Series chassis with the 2.3 L S14 engine found in the M10 straight-4. The car was manufactured to compete with the 1983 model of the 2.3 liter, 16 valve Mercedes-Benz W201 in the Group A Touring Car racing. Improvised versions of the M3 were later released as special editions christened Evo I, Evo II and Sport Evo (AKA. Evo III). The Evo series weighed less, delivered more power, and incorporated advanced aerodynamics. In 1991, BMW ceased the production of the original M3 (E30 coupe). The original M3 (E30) established itself as a successful racer by winning numerous races, including the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft, the European Touring Car Championship, and the world title in 1987. The car also won several times at the Macau Grand Prix, 24 Hours N'¼rburgring and the Spa 24 Hours races. 1992 saw the successor to the E30 at the Paris Auto Show, the E36 coupe. The E36 had a 3.0 L S50B30 straight-6 engine, churning out 286 hp (210 kW). The M3 evolved with a new 3.2 L, 321 hp (236 kW) S50B32 engine and a 6-speed SMG gearbox featured in the new 1996 model. The model was referred to as 'Euro' or the M3 'Evolution' or 'Evo'. The first BMW M3 model to be imported into the US was the 1995 E36 model. It had a 3.0 liter S50B30US engine producing 240 hp (176 kW), 305 N'¢m (225 ft'¢lbf), and a different suspension system. Between the years 1996-1999, the engine displacement saw an increase up to 3.2 L, with 240 hp (176 kW) and 320 N'¢m (236 ft'¢lbf). Later , five special models of the E36 M3 were manufactured; the M3 Euro-Spec (Canadian Edition), M3 CSL (also known as the M3 Lightweight), M3 GT, M3 GT-R, and the M3-R. An M3 GT Coupe was also designed as a limited edition for Europe with a right-hand drive. Only 406 models were manufactured. E46 M3 was launched worldwide in 2001, featuring a 3.2 liter S54B32 engine. It was the first naturally aspirated engine generating 343 PS (333 SAE net hp (252 kW) in North America) and 365 N'¢m (262 ft'¢lbf) of torque, manufactured by BMW. It was famous for producing more than 100 horsepower per liter (333 bhp/3.2 litre) of engine displacement. Mostly awaited successor to the series is the E90 M3 to be launched by 2007 with a next-generation 4.0 L V8 425 hp (315 kW) engine.
