In 1903, David Dunbar Buick started the Buick Motor Company. Soon the company became the largest carmaker in the United States, and the sole base for the newly created General Motors Corporation. Buick was one of the car companies responsible for pioneering the modern car industry. Automobiles such as the Electra, Grand National, Skylark, and the Roadmaster have become icons of the American culture. Buick, a division of General Motors, produced the Buick Skylark. This was a passenger car made in five production runs. Due to advancements in technology, changing tastes and styles, and new standards being demanded over the years, each run added to the car's design and varied it quite dramatically. The Buick Skylark was introduced to mark Buick's 50th anniversary. The Buick Skylark was one of the three convertibles produced in 1953 by General Motors; the other two were the Oldsmobile Fiesta and the Cadillac Eldorado. These three automobiles were limited production which promoted GM's design leadership. Out of these three vehicles, the Skylark witnessed the most successful production run with an outstanding 1,690 produced. At the beginning of 1964, the Skylark included the GranSport package which included the Buick 401 in³ (6.6 L) V8 which turned the Skylark into a powerful muscle car. The company has completed more than 100 years of maintaining class and keeping with their tradition, Buick has recently introduced quality vehicles such as the LaCrosse and the Lucerne, and will soon launch the Luxury SUV, the Buick Enclave. |
