Cadillac Coup Deville 1956

The Cadillac Automobile Company was established in 1902. The company was named after the 17th century French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, founder of Detroit, Michigan. They launched their first car, the 10 HP Cadillac, in October 1902. Since its inception the Cadillac has enjoyed tremendous success in the North American market. The Coup Deville also spelled as Coupe Deville or Coupe DeVille was introduced in 1949 by Cadillac. It was a luxury model and Cadillac's first pillarless hardtop car. It belonged to the Cadillac Series 62 and was embellished with leather upholstery and chrome bows in the headliner. The Coup Deville came with a model nameplate and Cadillac crest on the sides of the front fenders. The Coup Deville series has characteristic rear fins. In 1956, the Coup Deville was simultaneously being produced along with the Sedan Deville, which was a four-door hardtop sedan. The series 62 had an overhead valves V8 engine that has a displacement of 365 cubic inches. The engine churned around 285 horsepower at 4600 rpm. The engine was located in the front and the car was a rear wheel drive. It had a compression ratio of 9.75 to 1. The Coup Deville gradually became a popular car from the year of its inception through 1970s. Till 1973, it was a pillarless hardtop but the 1974 model was a pillared two-door. With the new B-body and C-body frame, the Coup Deville shrank in size in 1977. There was further reduction in size, in 1985 and the car became a front-wheel drive. The model was finally pulled out from the production line in 1993.
