The Chevelle was launched as a mid-sized vehicle on September 26, 1963. The Chevelle comes from the series of proven Chevrolet vehicles and is essentially the smaller version of the Impala. Chevelle models varied from economical family cars to powerful and chic coupes and convertibles. An assortment of muscle cars and small vehicles which were relatively light in weight and were equipped with few amenities but offered more horsepower, were introduced in the market. The Chevelle offered both versatility and convenience. The Chevelle was equipped with an A-frame platform and had a 112 inch wheelbase. The Chevelle had a suspension which was not equal in length and had wishbones in the front and a four-link live-axle rear suspension. The Chevelle came in a 2-door and 4-door body type. The basic model was the 300 series, while the Malibu SS was the top-notch model. Most 1966 Chevelles came with the standard 396 engine, which provided a horsepower ranging from 325 to 375 depending on the configuration. The Chevelle was also outfitted with stiffer springs and shocks to counter handling problems. This car offered smooth steering even on rough and uneven roads. Some models of the Chevelle include The Malibu, the Monte Carlo, Chevy II, and the Chevrolet Corvair. Chevrolet Chevelles have appeared in the background of various 'Dirty Harry' movies such as 'The Enforcer' and 'Magnum Force'. Furthermore, Chevrolet cars also made appearances in 'S.W.A.T'. |
