About Corvette 1957

The Chevrolet Corvette commonly known as the Corvette is a sports car manufactured by Chevrolet in 1953. The Chevrolet Corvette is widely regarded as an 'America's Sports car.' Earl, a car designer employed by General motors, designed a two seat sports car, which was later named the Corvette. The Corvette made its first appearance in Motorama car show. Corvette has seen six generations so far. Each generation has been rendered a unique name tag, C1 to C6. The 1957 Corvette belonged to the first generation (1953-1962). This generation was also called the solid-axle generation as there was no independent rear suspension (IRS) built into the car. The IRS was only available in the car after 1963. There was a drastic change in 1957 with the addition of the fuel injection system. This new invention was used in the gasoline engine for two years. The car had power windows (which was introduced in 1956), hydraulically operated power convertible top (1956), four speed manual transmission (introduced in 1957), and heavy duty brakes and suspensions (1957). The 1957 Corvette was powered by a V8 engine, which produced 283 to 245 horsepower. The manufacturers also had installed a 350 ZZ4 engine with stock air cleaners and full ignition shielding. The brakes which were installed in this car were 355 Posi brakes. The car also included an AM/FM radio, a remote CD player, heater, seat belts, parking brake alarm courtesy lights, and torque thrust magnesium wheels. The Corvette could accelerate from 0-60 in just 6 seconds. This performance was due to the 283 fuel engine, the 4.11:1 axle, and the Borg-Warner T-10 transmission. The outer body of this model was made from fiberglass, which was then a new material derived from steel.
