About Dodge Charger

Muscle cars are described as mid-sized and embedded with a powerful engine along with a special trim feature that provides maximum acceleration. These cars offer optimum performance both on the road and at drag racing competitions. Also called a pony car, a muscle car is not the same as a sports car. Initially, the market for muscle cars was ruled by Pontiac and Buick. Despite manufacturing cars that could technically outperform both these rivals, it was only after the launch of the 1966 Dodge Charger that Dodge officially landed a part of the market share. Since then, the 'Dodge Rebellion' has held on to its popularity. Among Dodge's Charger series, four distinct cars were launched: the B-Body (1966-1978), the L-Body (1983-1987), the 1999 concept, and the LX (2006). The B-Body Dodge was a rear wheel, hardtop coupe and termed a personal luxury car. The L-Body Dodge Charger was a subcompact hatchback with a front wheel drive. The 1999 concept Dodge Charger was a conceptual rear wheel drive. The latest model, the 2006 LX Dodge Charger, is a sedan with a rear wheel drive. Between 1979 and 1985, the Dodge Charger was popularized by the then highly acclaimed television series titled 'Dukes of Hazzard'. The series featured the 1969 Dodge Charge, which is still often quoted as the one of the most recognizable cars in the world. The car was called 'General Lee' by the lead cast of the series and was imprinted with the numbers '01' on both its doors. The horn of 'General Lee' played the first notes from the de facto Confederate States' anthem, 'Dixie's Land'. Displaying spectacular stunts, 'General Lee' catapulted the Dodge Charger to fame and earned the manufacturer a large chunk of the muscle car market.
