The Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors of Japan had entered into collaboration to form the Diamond Star Motors project between 1990 and 1998. This project comprised of the manufacturing of three vehicles ' Eagle, Eclipse and Laser at the DSM manufacturing plant in Normal, Illinois. One amongst the Eagle marquee was the Talon. The Talon was marketed as a sports car. It had a very potent turbocharged inline 4 cylinder engine that was codenamed 4G63. This engine is generally combined with an all-wheel drive power-train. The first generation of Talon was manufactured in 1989. The four trim levels offered were DL, ES, TSi and TSi AWD. This first generation of Talons went on till 1994. 1995 witnessed the second generation Talon that included ESi, TSi/TSi AWD manual transmission and TSi/TSi AWD automatic transmission versions. The Talon was a two-door hatchback. It had 2 front seats and 2 fold down marginal seats at the rear. The DL was the lowest option level and the TSi AWD (All Wheel Drive). The non-AWD versions had front wheel drive. The manual transmission had 5 gears and the automatic had 4. Talon had its rear fascia featuring a bumper cap with a dip in the middle in order to accommodate a high-mounted rear license plate. It also had an air-intake beneath the front bumper and side skirts. The Talon was originally available in Bright White, Black, Indy red, Wildberry Metallic, Medium Gray Metallic, Blue Metallic, Polo Green Metallic and Prism Blue.
