About El Camino 1964

The Chevrolet El Camino is a car that has been designed on the pick-up truck. The car is also known as the Chevrolet Conquistador. The 1960 El Camino was designed around the Chevrolet Impala, with major restyling. Owing to a drop in sales, Chevrolet decided to discontinue the model, only around 36,400 1st generation El Caminos were manufactured. In 1964, Chevrolet brought back the El Camino, but it was based around the Chevrolet Chevelle platform. The car was identical to the Chevelle B-pillar front, but the company decided that it would be a more practical, utility vehicle. This meant that the Chevelle's powerful engine was not under the hood. In 1965, this car was available with a 327 engine with around 350 hp. Then in 1966, they added the 396 in3 engine which rated at around 325 to 375 hp. A new grille, front bumper, trims and air shocks were introduced in the 1967 update. The last El Camino was the fifth generation 1987 model, though a few of them were also sold as a 1988 model. El Caminos today, are still used as a daily transport vehicle, while some are used on the race tracks. Bubba Drift - a drift team uses the 1986 El Camino, one of the only drift cars that use an automatic transmission instead of a manual one. It has been rumored, that GM is also considering reviving the El Camino, as it is already being sold in Australia as the Holden Ute ('Ute' is an Australian slang for 'Utility Vehicle').
