The Fairlane series of cars were introduced in the year 1955 in six different styles of chassis as a full sized automobile. The series derives its name from the mansion, situated in Dearborn, Michigan; belonging to Henry Ford titled 'Fair Lane'. There are six different variants available; they include a 2 door club sedan, a 4 door town sedan, a Victoria 2 door hardtop, a Sunliner convertible, the Crown Victoria, and the Crown Victoria featuring a plastic top. The engines varied across each model; the basic power-plant sported was the 223 cubic-inches, Inline-six cylinder engine capable of producing 120 horsepower, followed by a highly tweaked adaptation producing 137 horsepower.

The Fairlane series was offered to the public on sale primarily between 1955 and 1971, in North America. The car initially designed as a full-sized car, during the 1950s, was, a decade later, trimmed and shrunk to a mid-size design. The success of the mid-sized version led to the manufacture of the mid-size Australian version in 1967, termed to be a large-sized car of that region. The Fairlane, upon its launch, replaced the premier Crestline series offered by Ford. The car then became Ford's premier selling full-sized car. All the six different editions of the car bore the trademark stainless-steel 'Fairlane stripe' on their sides. The Crown Victoria Skyliner was specially equipped with a tinted, transparent plastic roof and the regular Crown Victoria coupe featured a gamut of stainless steel trimmings. The newly added top trim included in the series was the world's first power retractable hardtop in a car.

By the end of 1956, three models featuring radically different V8 engines were launched. The first one was built using a 292 cubic inches engine producing 200 Horsepower. The second edition used a 312 cubic inches engine delivering 215 Horsepower. A modified variant of the second engine that could produce 225 Horsepower was later released as a replacement.
