The Ford Motor Company manufactured the Ford Galaxie, which made its debut in 1959. It remained in production till 1974. This car was an upgraded version of Ford's previous model called; Ford Fairlane. The car was available in many configurations such as Club Victoria, Club Sedan, Sunliner Convertible, and Skyliner Retractable. The distinct feature of the 1959 model was the configuration of Skyliner Retractable, which had an all-steel hardtop that could be electrically moved into the trunk of the vehicle, to become a convertible in about sixty seconds.
The series underwent modifications down the years and in the year 1962, 14 different body styles from sedans, convertibles to wagons were available. Five engines were available and the maximum horsepower was 405. In 1963, the car engine was beefed up to produce 425 horsepower. A wide gamut of options was available in the 1963 model and a sports roof hardtop adorned the top of the car. There were three transmission options available; a Synchro-Smooth column-shift, 4-speed manual Fordomatic Drive automatic, and Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic. The engine was located in the front and the car was a rear wheel drive. The engine was I, 6-cylinder with normal aspiration. The 1963 Galaxie had a seating capacity of 6. The car also had optional engine types such as the V8 engine that comes in different displacements producing varying horsepower. The car had fiberglass fenders, doors and trunk lid and aluminum bumpers to reduce the weight.
Few of the Galaxie models were muscle cars (powerful cars) and at the time of release, they were used for racing and some models were used as family cars. This series is now considered to be a classic.
