The Geo Tracker was sold by Chevrolet with aims to compete with the Suzuki Samurai. Strategically, the Tracker was actually produced by Suzuki and only sold by Chevy, since they had more dealers in America. The Tracker was called the Sidekick when Suzuki originally marketed the car. One of the better auto manufacturers around today, Suzuki did not worry about the fact that it was competing with itself. Inevitably it was making more money on the same product. This part-time 4x4 Compact SUV comes in a 2-door wagon, 4-door wagon and a 2-door convertible model. The wagons, as well as the soft-top have come in a base and an LSi trim level. There's a 1.6lt 4 cylinder engine under the hood. The Tracker sported 5-mph bumpers and rear shoulder belts. The soft-top folds back partly, to give a sunroof type effect. It offers optional 3-spoke alloy wheels for a sporty look. The windshield is big and wide for extra visibility. At first glance, the Tracker looks like a 'concrete-jungle' toy, and you wouldn't want to take this car on big expeditions, but would do well for a trip to the beach or for daily chores. The Tracker is an economical and very practical SUV with functionalities more like a compact station wagon with loads of attitude. |
