About Lincoln Continental 1979

Lincoln Continental was a name used by the Lincoln unit of the Ford Motor Company. Originally, the vehicle was created for the personal use of Edsel Ford, who had asked Bob Gregorie to design the car for his vacation in 1939. The Lincoln Continental was subsequently made on time and delivered to Edsel Ford. The convertible had long front fenders and a short trunk. Edsel Ford was so impressed with the car that he asked his workers to begin commercial production of the Lincoln Continental. The production of the car began in 1939; over two dozen cars were rolled out the same year. Production of the Lincoln Continental was stopped due to the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II, only to be continued from 1946 to 1948. In 1955, it was revived as a separate Ford brand and produced as a luxury car. The 1979 Lincoln Continental was a huge car weighing nearly two-and-a-half tons. The car roared to life with a 460cid V8 engine but did not give good fuel efficiency. The Lincoln Continental was very spacious and the interiors of the car were done in leather. The production of the luxury car continued till 2002. During the production period, certain improvements were made in the car's interiors as well as exteriors. The Lincoln Continental was sold in two forms during its lifetime. From 1939-81, it was sold as a full-size luxury car. In 1982, it was produced in the category of mid-sized luxury cars and was a four-door sedan. The Lincoln Continental run came to an end in 2002.
