Lincoln's full-sized SUV can be summed up in one word: Navigator. Introduced by Lincoln in 1998, the Navigator soon gained popularity. By 2001, it comprised almost 40% of America's SUVs. Lincoln had produced two truck SUVs in early 2000. The Navigator is one of them and the larger of the two. Currently, the Navigator comes for a price ranging between US $ 50,140 and US $ 62,645. The first model of the Navigator was trimmed with leather, wood and fine carpeting. However, traces of its origins as a pick-up truck were still evident. Nevertheless, this did not deter sales and the Navigator soon found a soft corner in many celebrities. Soon upgraded, the Navigator incorporated features such as satellite navigation system, reverse sensing system while side airbags also came to be included. The second generation of Lincoln Navigator was released in 2003. The re-design largely included a renovation of the interiors, bringing it up to luxury standards. The new features included power-deployable running boards, a power lift-gate and power folding third-row seat. The engine, too, was replaced with a more powerful one. An advanced version of the model includes features such as THX audio system, rear-seat entertainment, and HID headlights. The third generation Navigator is expected to hit the markets in 2007; the model was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in 2006. This generation has a long wheelbase and is 14.7 inches longer than the standard Navigator. This model sports a large chromed grille and power dome. By 2007, all Lincoln vehicles are likely to adopt three-letter names. However, the Navigator will retain the same name.
