About Mg

MG was a major British manufacturer of international racing cars. The company began in small form in 1924, when a local customizer, by the name of Morris, started putting out lines of Morris Garage (MG) cars. The early MGs were known as either Morris or MGs. Prior to World War II, MG put out a diverse line up of cars--not all of which were intended for automobile racing. That being said, MGs were traditionally two-seated sports cars. Most fans of the brand remain singularly interested in the old school convertibles. Pre-war, the MG company released a unit called the MG TB. This was the first model in a line of cars called the T-series MG Midgets, which sold extremely well, both at home in Britain and abroad. Other models in the T-Series included the TC, the TF, and the TD.In 1962, the MG company created a new sports car that emphasized comfort and flexibility. Three years later, MG released a Fixed Head Coupe, otherwise known as known an FHC. Although MG continuously updated its vehicle components, the manufacturer had to bend over backwards to comply with tough 1960s American standards for emission releases. In the 1950s, a company called the British Motor Corp. took over MG. In 1970, the BMC enacted rather harsh cutbacks, a move designed to save a larger subsidiary called British Leyland. MGs have continued to market successfully both at home and abroad (particularly the MG A, MG B, and the MG C). Although the future of the brand remains in doubt, collectors the world over applaud MG's unique style, improvised designs, and technical acumen.
