About Pontiac Grand Prix 1965

The Grand Prix is a car manufactured by the Pontiac division of General Motors. It was released in 1962 and was at that time available as a single hardtop model. Its specifications were reminiscent of the preceding model, Pontiac Catalina. However, it had minimal outside chrome trim with bucket seats and center console as interiors. The Grand Prix was primarily the vision of John De Lorean, head of Advanced Engineering at Pontiac. The 1962 Grand Prix (GP) model came with a standard V8, 4-barrel engine that produced 303 horsepower. It also had an option of a 230 horsepower, 333 horsepower as well as the Super Duty engines that produced 370 horsepower. The Grand Prix was embellished with luxurious interiors such as all-vinyl bucket seats, center console with a floor shifter, storage compartment, and optional tachometer or vacuum gauge. The car was equipped with a standard three-speed manual and had the option of a four-speed manual or a Hydra-Matic transmission. 1965 saw the second generation of the Grand Prix which was built around a shorter Catalina platform. The Grand Prix came with a no-cost option bench seat that had folding armrest instead of the bucket seats. The 1965 Pontiac was powered to life by a standard 389 cubic inch V8 engine that stirred up 325 horsepower. A range of optional engines were offered having a similar configuration to the standard, however they were capable of producing higher horsepower to a maximum of 376 horsepower. All were V8 engines, either being 389 cubic inch or 421 cubic inch. A new 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission option was introduced in 1965. The production of the Grand Prix is still on till date; though now the revised version, built on the 2004 modified GM W Platform is available. The car is presumed to be production till 2008, after which it will be replaced by the Zeta based G8.
