Porsche

The Porsche car was the brainchild of a legendary automotive engineer by the name of Ferdinand Porsche, who also designed and developed the very first Volkswagen auto. The Porsche quickly made a name for itself as a state-of-the-art vehicle. The first Porsche was built in 1938. A boxster type design, it was largely patched together from Volkswagen Beetle components.During World War II, the Porsche manufacturing operation evacuated to Austria. After hostilities ended, Porsche developed its 356 sports car. This car was similar to the Porsche 64, and it included lots of Volkswagen Beetle components (the same gearbox, suspension, etc.). As the Porsche Company grew and gained an international reputation, the brand began developing its own parts, and the later-run 356s were made entirely from in-house parts.Porsches enjoyed numerous race wins in major international sporting competitions, and Porsches often clashed head-to-head with rival Ferraris. In 1963, the company rolled out a new motor racing sports car called the Porsche 911. This featured a V-6 cylinder engine, and it quickly became popular with both the racing and the non-racing crowd. The Porsche 911 blew away its competition at race rallies and looked amazing.When most people think of the Porsche brand, they picture the 911. The body of the 911 was similar to the body of the 356, but later 911 versions included more formal ornamentation and other extras. Porsche has also entered the off-road market with its Cayenne model. Porsche currently maintains a close working relationship with Volkswagen, and the two companies often trade parts and techniques. Porsche also consults on other motor projects. The company recently assisted Harley-Davidson with an engine design for the V-Rod bike.
