About Volkswagen Bug 1970

The German company Volkswagen ranks fourth amongst the world's largest car manufacturers. Though the origins of this company date back to the 1930s, the origins of its core car 'The Beetle' date back even further. 'The Beetle', as it soon came to been known, was the brain child of German designer Ferdinand Porsche. Originally 'The Beetle' was created as a people's car, an affordable car that could seat two adults and three children. With a speed of 100km/hr this car was supposed to cost no more than what it took to buy a motor cycle in those days. A saving scheme was devised to aid the purchase of the car in certain time; however World War 2 broke out around the same period, causing the loss of the money that was invested by the commoners in the saving scheme as they did not receive their cars. The first 'Beetle' was called the 'Type 1' and was produced in 1983. It earned the name of 'The Beetle' or 'Bug' due to its compact structure and unique outer frame. Volkswagen officially stated using the name 'The Beetle' or 'Bug' in 1967, up until which the car was called Volkswagen 'Type 1'. Volkswagen's 1970 line up of Beetles include 1970 Volkswagen 1302 'Beetle', Volkswagen 1302 S 'Beetle', Volkswagen 1600 Karmann-Ghia Coup'© , Volkswagen 1600 TL Fastback, Volkswagen 411 LE, Volkswagen 411 LE Variant, 1970 Volkswagen `Beetle' 1500, Volkswagen K70 1605, and the Volkswagen K70 S. The Volkswagen Beetle is been termed as a cult car and is often associated with the hippie culture of the 1960s. The 1960s 'Bugs' were painted with psychedelic designs and colors by their owners. The Beetle made its Hollywood debut in 1968 under the title of 'Herbie' in a Disney production. Though production of the Beetle was stopped in 1986, the car made a come back in 1998 and was called 'The New Beetle'. The original design remains the same, and little else in the car is similar to the original 'Type 1'.
