Manufactured by Volkswagen, the VW Golf is known as the Volkswagen Rabbit in North America. Recorded as Volkswagen's best-selling model, the Rabbit is the world's third best selling model, with over 24 million models built as of 2005. High quantities of the Golf have been the 3-door hatchback model, which is extremely popular, especially in the UK. With the use of the hatchback, the Golf became successful and eventually started the entire golf class. First Golf was produced by Volkswagen, in the year 1974. Volkswagen launched several models including the MK-I, MK-II, MK-III, MK-IV, and lastly MK-V. After the success of the first model, MK-II released in North America as Golf and shed off Rabbit. Every model added new features, such as the MK-III, which included a straight 4-cylinder engine. It was also marked as the Car of the Year, in 1992. In 1997, Volkswagen released their next model, MK-IV with advances in the equipment levels and also high quality interiors. This new model became the highest selling model in Europe. The fifth generation Golf was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in October, 2003. This new Golf, outdid the previous model with advancements, which included suspension changes, careful and expert tuning of the chassis, and much more. Along with these models, Volkswagen has released many special edition models depending on the event and the purpose, such as the Golf GTI, The Golf Plus, the 20th Anniversary edition, and several more. The Volkswagen Golf has always been a popular car and in addition, Volkswagen takes pride in maintaining their style and quality. |
