About Art Deco Vase

Art Deco hearkens back to 1920s Europe. Although the nascent art school didn't really have a name until the 1925 World's Fair in Paris, the movement had already grown to a large size by that time. The movement simultaneously impacted the architecture of the era and its decorative arts. In 1928, Art Deco finally caught on in the United States, where it was termed Moderne.Paris, France was the true epicenter of Art Deco. Furniture designers, architects, and artists all learned the techniques and studied the works of the masters in the 1930s. Edgar Brandt's famous wrought iron designs, Cartier's watches and jewelry, and Maurice Marinot's ingenious glass work all contribute to the Art Deco movement. Many vase designers were inspired by the Art Deco movement. You can find Art Deco Loetz vases from Germany and Austria--ornate metal creations replete with silver overlays and crusted floral mounts. The French artist Le Verre introduced the 'Dahlias' theme in the early 1920s. Clarice Cliff was another Art Deco vase designer. She arguably did her best work in the late 1930s. Cliff's Crown Devon vase, for instance, featured a matte glaze finish and oddly-angled handles. Cliff also produced the Aurea Pattern Bowl in her studio in Newport, England. This bowl features a complicated pattern and a band of green glaze near the top of the rim. In addition, Cliff released her famous 'Secrets' pattern. One of the most interesting pieces from the Secrets line is a vase in the shape of a clog.
