About Ovenware

Let's review some of the basics of ovenware care. Whether you own a ceramic stoneware set from Noritake or a valuable piece of Haviland dinnerware from France, it's critical to go over the manufacturer's instructions before cooking. Many ceramic pieces cannot go from the refrigerator right onto the rangetop. The sudden temperature differential can shock the cookware. Some cookware is designed for oven ranges, but plates, bowls, and serving dishes should be kept away from these 'point sources' of heat. Well-designed cookware should have non heat-conducting handles on the sides for easy potage. However, if you put these pieces into the oven, the handles will get hot, so use an oven mitt to protect your hands. Is it appropriate to put your ovenware on glass bottom heating ranges? As long as your ceramics are safe for the range, it doesn't matter whether you use a gas flame burner or a glass plated range. However, you might avoid taking pieces off the stove and cooling them with cold water. Allow the ceramic pieces to cool on their own for a few minutes first.Nonstick cookware is easy to clean, provided that you don't use abrasive detergents or scouring pads like SOS pads. You can leave your ovenware pieces soaking in warm water, but you don't want to leave water sitting in your pots and pans for days, since bacteria can form and discolor your dishes and pots. Finally, clean out any acidic or tannic agents after cooking to avoid staining your ovenware.
