About Rosenthal

Phillip Rosenthal started the Rosenthal China company in 1884. The business began in Selb, Germany and quickly expanded to other villages. Phillip Rosenthal built his company by buying white porcelain from another company called Hutschenreuther. He then designed his ceramics based on patterns developed by his wife, Maria. During the 1890s and early 1900s, the Rosenthal China Co. acquired numerous factories throughout Germany.During the onset of World War II, Rosenthal and his family fled the country. At that time, the Rosenthal China Co. operated nearly a dozen outlets and employed thousands of people. When World War II ended, the Rosenthals returned to Germany to pick up the pieces of their business. Through perseverance and dedication, Phillip Rosenthal Jr. rebuilt his father's empire and made it even more successful than it was before.Rosenthal crafts, porcelain, china, and crystal are generally very distinguished pieces. At once inimitable and intuitive, the designs are ageless. Despite marketplace pressures to speed up production and mass-produce some of the more popular Rosenthal pieces, the company has held fast to its ideals of quality and 'better form.'Whether you're looking for a housewarming gift for a new neighbor or simply celebrating the seasonal holidays, consider giving Rosenthal china. You can discover elegant dinnerware place-settings for under $200. Antique Rosenthal china--from the first two or three decades of the company's existence--can be worth a substantial amount of money to dinnerware collectors.
