Go-karts are basic four-wheel vehicles that are used for sport or recreation, or 'karting,' as go-kart enthusiasts call it. The basis of the go-kart design is a four-wheeled cart with no suspension or differential. The cart is maneuvered using the flexible chassis. Some go-karts, namely hobby carts, are propelled by gravity. Go-karts intended to race contain a small engine that runs on either gasoline or electricity. Recreational racing go-karts have no differential so they operate on a fixed gear, which limits their top speeds. Professional go-carts will often have a six-speed manual transmission so that they can go faster. Other Sports Vehicles Although they're fun, dune buggies, go-karts and ATVs should all be treated with a serious degree of respect. These extreme vehicles all carry a decent amount of power that can result in broken bones or head injuries. In severe cases, a lapse in judgment could be fatal. Children should be watched closely when using these vehicles. ATV training courses are strongly recommended for riders of all ages. |
