Choosing the right basketball depends on a number of factors. the first thing to consider is the material. Are you playing indoors or outdoors? Leather balls work quite well for indoor games, but they have a tendency to deteriorate when used outdoors. However, synthetic leather balls will hold up well in either indoor or outdoor games. Rubber balls are strictly for outdoor play. After considering material, size does matter. This depends on the age of the player and the size of their hands. You will have a choice of either a small size basketball, a standard or an oversize ball. Although the standard basketball weight is 1.3 pounds, some players like to practice with special heavy basketballs in order to improve their skills. In general, a full size men's basketball has a circumference of 29.5 inches. For a junior or Intermediate, the circumference is 28.5. The circumferences on youth basketballs are about 27.5 inches. Women's basketballs are sometimes slightly smaller and lighter. You can find them in 28.5 to 29 inches in circumference and 18 to 20 ounces in weight. Although you can find balls of different colors, the standard basketball is generally orange or brown, with an outer cover of leather or nylon. The basketball's pebbled, indented surface help the players grip and control. Some companies manufacture basketballs with wide channels. These special balls offer the player better control by enhancing their ability to grip. Basketballs can be cleaned with soap and water; however, immersing them in water is not recommended. |
