Football cleats are a type of shoe specially designed for playing football. They incorporate large studs on the bottom, which helps in gripping the surface, thus, preventing a player from sliding and changing directions rapidly. Different types of cleats are manufactured keeping in mind the position of the player and the type of field they play in. Generally speaking, there are three shoe styles available in the market: high-tops, mid-cut, and low cut. The high-top shoe styles are especially made for linesmen. This shoe style has an extended ankle that provides extra support to the player and, thus, makes lateral movements easier. There is a lot of pressure on the ankles of linesmen because of the several lateral movements during the course of the game. The mid-cut style offers more support. This allows maneuverability and, so, it is best suited for skill players such as defensive backs, running backs, wide receiver, and quarterbacks. The low-cut style is generally preferred by players because they are lightweight. The lower-cut allows the player to make quick cuts on the field. There are two types of cleats: molded and detachable. The outsole on the bottom of the shoes is permanently attached to the molded cleats. Generally, turf shoes have molded rubber that gives spring and traction on harder surfaces. Detachable cleats are more expensive than molded cleats. This is because the studs can be removed and replaced according to the field. The cleats are usually made either from leather or synthetic material. The cleat made from leather is comfortable because it is are flexible and durable. Apart from that, leather has ventilation; hence, the air can pass through the cleat. Synthetic cleats are less expensive than leather cleats. |
