For the serious enthusiast, there are a wide variety of poker tables from which to choose. Shape is one factor. Currently, the 'race track' style table is the most popular. Race track tables are oblong, and feature raised, padded sides. Other classic shapes are the round and octagonal tables. Another question is the table's top. The classic green felt top is timeless, but many contemporary players prefer velveteen. Velveteen is smoother and cards are said to glide better upon it. Also, velveteen won't produce the fuzzballs for which felt--even high quality wool felt--is known for. Velveteen is also available in a wide variety of brilliant colors. You'll need to know where you stand on the issue of cupholders. For some, there is no room for anything on a poker table besides the 'three Cs': cards, chips, and cash. As good as that may sound, most people know that eventually a guest is going to grab a beer. The question then is, when that guest brings that beer over, do you want him to have the option of putting it in a cup holder, or will you be okay with him placing it directly on the table? Though some covers are designed to be removed for cleaning, many are not. Experts say that if you opt for cup holders, consider those with a diameter of 2 3/4 inches in diameter and three inches in depth. This will easily accommodate most glasses as well as beer cans, and allow for the easy retrieval of both. |
