About Baseball Card Value

Most baseball card collectors evaluate pieces based on the Professional Grade Authenticator (PGA) system. This is a sliding scale (one to 10), which ranks cards according to extremely subtle features. The most perfectly conditioned card ranks a 10 on the PGA scale. This is known as a 'gem mint' card and generally refers to cards that have never been removed from their initial packaging.Sliding down the scale, you'll come across mint, near-mint mint, excellent, good, and so on until you get to the rating of poor. Amateur collectors may not be able to tell the difference between a seven and an eight on the PGA scale, but professionals can appraise cards almost instantaneously. You may be surprised to learn that cards in seemingly excellent condition may only rank as sixes and sevens on the PGA scale.Must cards be in perfect condition to sell well to collectors? The answer depends on the seller's marketing skills. It can be possible to fool neophyte traders into selling prize cards for much less than they are worth. However, unethical buyers and traders or people who take advantage of naive sellers tend to get bad reputations relatively quickly in the insular world of baseball card trading. When dealing with a new seller or buyer, make sure to get references. Get in contact with an online network of traders or speak with past clients. Remember that baseball card trading is a kind of investing, albeit on a relatively small scale. Diversify your card holdings and become an expert on a small area of the card market. For instance, focus only on memorabilia cards or autographed cards.
