About Cards Baseball

Baseball cards, for many, are the only items worth collecting. There is more money to be made in baseball cards than in most other collectibles, and the sheer number of cards available ensures that no collection will ever be truly complete. It also makes it easier to find the cards you are looking for. While the industry is currently in a transition period, the four primary baseball cards producers are Donruss, Fleer, Topps, and Upper Deck.Even the most serious collectors break down into two categories. The first is made up of people for whom money is no object. These are the buyers who can put together the funds (often hundreds of thousands of dollars) to pick up the rarest of cards featuring images of players like Ruth and Mantle. The lucky ones might even be able to purchase the Honus Wager card, which in mint condition has sold for over $1.1 million. The second type of serious collector will do whatever he can to put together a set of rare and important cards, but he will not be able to enter into the high-roller auctions that often take place in the world of baseball cards. For these collectors, there are plenty of spectacular cards that can be found for a few hundred dollars, or even the occasional rookie that goes over $1,000.If you are just starting out in baseball card collecting, you can look to cards from the 1970s or complete sets from the '80s to set the foundation of your collection. Cards and sets from these eras are still affordable for most, and they feature some of the greatest players ever to step on the field. This means that they have the potential to escalate in value in the coming years.
