Born on October 13, 1962 in Starkville Mississippi, Jerry Lee Rice is a former football wide receiver in the NFL. Rice is considered one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history and is even regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. Jerry Rice was selected to the Pro Bowl thirteen times in 20 seasons and awarded three Super Bowl rings playing for the 49ers. Brought up in Crawford, Mississippi by a mason family, Jerry developed his hands while working for his father by catching bricks thrown by his brothers. Rice played football for Mississippi Valley State University where he was nicknamed 'world' since the players on the team said there wasn't a ball in the world that he couldn't catch. With a total of 51 touchdown catches and an average of 10 catches per game in 1984, Rice was an AP (Associated Press) All-American. In 1985, Rice surprised the 49ers with a record of 49 catches for 927 yards. In 1988, Rice had his best season, racking up 64 passes for 1,306 yards and 9 touchdowns. That year, the 49ers beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII. The following year, the 49ers made it back to the Super Bowl Rice's aide, who made 7 catches for 148 yards and a Super Bowl record 3 touchdown receptions. Even though Rice along with the 49ers made it to the Super Bowl several times after that, Rice left the team and signed with the Raiders. During his stint in Oakland, the team made it to Super Bowl XXXVII, but ended up on the losing side. In 2004, Rice played his last Super Bowl with the Raiders as he joined Seattle for the remainder of that year. Then, in the summer of 2005, Rice was the sixth wide receiver for the Denver Broncos; however he retired shortly after the season began. Jerry Lee Rice is still considered as one of the best players in NFL history. His style and his performance and the way he carried himself on the field inspired hundreds of his fans and fellow players.
