About Memorabilia Baseball Card

Memorabilia baseball card collecting can quickly become a very involved hobby. Here are some tips to reduce the stress of collecting, improve your trading habits, and generally make the process more fun. First off, before you start buying up random cards, create a 'wish list' of cards you really want to get. Learn about all four major modern card producers: Topps, Donruss, Fleet, and Upper Deck. (Alternatively, go after lesser-known baseball memorabilia, such as tobacco cards printed during the early 20th-century.)Once you've made your wish list, draw up a budget. Don't overspend on memorabilia. Protect the cards that you accumulate in Mylar binders or wooden pine boxes. If you want to display your cards to other collectors, get folders which feature 'nine window per page' plastic sheets.Collectors use a sliding rating scale to determine card conditions. The top grade is 'gem mint.' From there, cards get evaluated as mint, near-mint, and so forth down to poor. The differences between these grades can be subtle, even to veteran collectors. A gem mint card worth $1,000 can be almost valueless as a 'very good' card. Keep a pricing guide handy when you travel to trade shows.Store your valuable cards away from sunlight and humidity and don't take them out (unless you're not concerned about value depreciation). The oils and acids which your fingers deposit can etch away at the paper and degrade the quality of the cards. Watch out for forgeries and be sure to authenticate any expensive card purchases.
