About Patrick Ewing

Former NBA player Patrick Aloysius Ewing was born on August 5, 1962 in Kingston, Jamaica. He commenced his career by playing for his college basketball team. Widely recognized, as one of the best college level players ever in 1982, 1984, and 1985, Ewing helped his team the Georgetown Hoyas reach the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship Final. Apart from which, he also catapulted his college team to victory in the 1985 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball. P.Ewing was named 'Male Naismith College Player' of the Year, in 1985; the same award was won by Michael Jordan the previous year. After which he was signed on be the New York Knicks. During his tenure with the New York Knicks, Ewing was proclaimed an NBA 'All Star', eleven times. He was also named 'Rookie of the Year', during his debut year and was named among the 50 greatest players in NBA history. During his illustrious career, his name was included into the 'All-NBA First Team' once, six times into the 'ALL-NBA Second' team and three times into the 'NBA All-Defensive Second Team'. Ewing was among the original members of the 1992 Olympic Games Dream Team, along with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Clyde Drexler. Ewing greatest moment occurred, during the Eastern Conference Semifinals match against the Indiana Pacers, when he successfully attempted a three-foot finger roll. Ewing was later traded by the Knicks and played for the Seattle SuperSonics, a move that most critics termed as the beginning of the Knicks fall as NBA giants. On completing a year with the SuperSonics he shifted to the Orlando Magic team where he played for a year before announcing his retirement, in September 2002. That same season he signed on as the assistant coach with the Washington Wizards, however later moved on to coach the Houston Rockets.
