About French Stamp

French stamps give collectors a wonderful window into the economic and moral attitudes of France as the country has evolved. During the French Revolution of the 1780s and 1790s, the French postal system endured tremendous stresses as bureaucrats from the old regime got executed and replaced by new, incompetent leaders. The stamps from this era were produced haphazardly, and they are now quite valuable to collectors. With the advent of Napoleon's dictatorship following the Revolution, the postal system was reorganized. Unsurprisingly, Napoleon issued a number of stamps honoring himself. These early 19th-century French stamps can sell for thousands of dollars, even in used condition. French postal and economic records from the early 19th-century are spare, unfortunately.Following in the footsteps of England's postal reformation of 1840, France adopted wide-scale bureaucratic reforms of its postal system in the 1850s. Records from this period detail French stamp issuances much more carefully. French philatelists have a much easier time discussing the relative values of these late 19th-century stamps.Following World War II, France called upon the United States to help rebuild its shattered postal infrastructure. Marshall Plan strategists helped France print a series of thirteen ''Europa'' stamps to get through the reconstruction. After France integrated with the European Union, it issued a series of stamps commemorating the moment. Even after just a few short years, these commemorative sets have skyrocketed in value (over 400 percent in some cases).
