About Un Stamp

In 1951, the United Nations created its own postal administration system, referred to as the UNPA. This Postal Service is unique in the world, in that it prints stamps in three separate currency denominations. You can purchase a UN stamp in Austrian, Swiss, or U.S. currency. Typically, the UN produces stamps of extreme high-quality. Regularly, administrators hold worldwide design contests, and the winners get great international exposure. The UN also employs its unique moral authority to draw attention to major world problems through stamps. For instance, in 1990, the UNPA released a stamp that issued a call to ''Fight AIDS Worldwide.'' Revenues brought in from the sale of this stamp went to the United Nations organization to help with the global battle against the disease. Similarly, every year, the UNPA releases endangered species stamps featuring 12 of the most tenuous species on Earth. The UNPA puts out about half a dozen commemorative issuances every year. At the end of a twelve-month period, the UNPA destroys its remaining stock. Thus, collectors only have limited windows of opportunity to get UN stamps. Don't look for lots of errors or printing mishaps when it comes to UN stamps. These pieces are minted under the strictest conditions.Approximately 85 percent of the people who purchase UN stamps are UN stamp collectors. Thus, the Post Office deliberately tailors its offerings to appeal to philatelists. Swiss, Austrian, and United States postal authorities all help regulate the use and distribution of UNPA stamps, and an international editing institution oversees the Post Office.
