The history of Alabama football reaches back over a hundred years, to 1892. W.G. Livingston introduced football to the student body, and they have never looked back since. Early games had a 'thrown together' quality, being played against top high school players for lack of an organized league or other competition. As those leagues developed and solidified into the NCAA we know today, Alabama solidified its reputation for quality on the field. In 1922, Alabama gained national recognition for defeating Pennsylvania 9-7. Rose Bowl victories followed in 1923 and 1926. The nickname 'Crimson Tide' was coined by a reporter from the Birmingham Age-Herald, as he reported on an Alabama/Auburn game in 1907. The soggy conditions left the field full of red mud, and the reporter's turn of phrase was immortalized as the team's nickname soon afterward. The team mascot is an elephant named Big Al. The Alabama team became associated with elephants after a game versus Ole Miss in 1930. Once again, the association originated with a reporter. It seems that one reporter wrote that he heard a fan shouting for folks to hold their horses because the elephants were coming. This caught on with other local journalists, who began to refer to Alabama linemen as Red Elephants. To catch up with the Crimson Tide, Alabama tickets will get you in on the action. The team's stats have been volatile over the past two years; at one point, they were the nation's pass-defense leader, but that top rank soon slid out of their grasp. This varied record means Alabama tickets can be relatively easy to acquire one year, and nearly impossible the next. However, one thing is for certain, in the wild and woolly world of college football, a few Alabama tickets are a safe bet for an exciting time. See More Alabama Basketball Tickets at Stubhub! |
