The Chicago Cubs, originally known as the White Stockings, were founded back in the 1870s. Baseball was supposedly an amateur sport back in these days, but many clubs had taken to hiring professionals on the sly. The Cincinnati Red Stockings were the first club to drop the pretense and declare themselves a professional ball club. These events led quickly to the creation of the National Association. The White Stockings were contenders for victory over the Red Stockings until the Great Chicago Fire forced them to drop out until 1874. However, the Cubs' true golden era came after this. After the Anson Era more or less wound down to its natural end with players moving on or just getting too old, a new group came in, managed by Frank Chance. It was during this period that the Cubs won four pennants and two World Series titles in a five-year span. At this point in time, however, the Cubs of Wrigley Field have had some record lengths of time between championships, despite the talent on their current roster: important players include star pitcher Mark Prior and MVP candidate Derek Lee. Regardless of their efforts, they haven't won a World Series since 1908 and they haven't been in one since 1945. However, fans are undeterred, and continue to be loyal to the Chicago Cubs-- a dedication unmatched by mose fans in sports. It's best to buy Chicago Cubs Tickets at the start of the season. Wrigley Field seating becomes more limited as the season progresses. Season ticket holders may sell some of their Chicago Cubs tickets, making more Chicago Cubs tickets available in the secondary market. Also, many of these resale tickets come on the market at the last minute, just days before a game, so there's always a chance to catch the game where the Cubs turn their record around.
