The Georgia Bulldogs football team played their first game in 1892 against Auburn (from Alabama) in what many think of as the birth of Southern college football. This game started the long and famous rivalry between these two colleges. Since that time, the Bulldogs have won five national championships. They also have a long-standing rivalry with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The school nickname was started in the usual way, by a sportscaster using it a number of times during a game. It had already been suggested in a local newspaper. The team's mascot, a bulldog named Uga, has appeared on more television shows and special events than any other by far. The Bulldogs had one of their best eras in the two decades of 1960-1970, while being coached by legendary Vince Dooley. It was during this era that the Bulldogs won six SEC championships. There have been many great and famous players on Bulldog teams like Fran Tarkenton, who went on to the NFL and later to the Hall of Fame. Mark Richt replaced Vince Dooley in 200 and the Bulldogs have continued to do well. They have won two SEC Eastern Division titles and one SEC championship. For Bulldog fans, not much can compare to catching a game in person. As recent seasons have sold out, it is highly recommended that you buy your Georgia tickets early in the season. Like most ball clubs, good seating for games tends to be relegated to group ticket purchases and season ticket holders. Georgia tickets can still be obtained from secondary sources, like online auctions, that sell tickets made available by season tickets holders. This can be a good way to get your Georgia tickets, but you may want to find the best seating (rather than just the best deal) before buying. See More UGA Football Tickets at Stubhub! |
