About Fisher Price Toy

Fisher-Price--now a division of Mattel--is one of the largest and most popular toy manufacturers in the world. The company began with three founders (Herman Fisher, Irving Price, and Helen Schelle) producing wooden toy dogs. For the next four decades, this tradition of crafting and selling toy dogs continued (up until the 1960s).During the '60s, Fisher-Price began manufacturing its most iconic toys: Little People. Little People were hollow, armless and legless people crafted from plastic. Being hollow allowed them to slide easily into raised pegs in toy school buses, for example, giving children the ability to have their Little People 'drive' the vehicles. This line of Fisher-Price toys also included a variety of play sets, such as a farm with miniature plastic animals.Less than a decade later, Fisher-Price was purchased by the Quaker Oats Company. During this time, Fisher-Price expanded outside of the toy world by producing a small amount of business-related products, including door alarms. Its Little People line also grew to include a series of Sesame Street toys, featuring characters and buildings from the popular children's show.It wasn't until 1993 that Fisher-Price merged with Mattel. After acquiring the Tyco brand, Mattel realized it could market most toys under the Mattel and Tyco names, leaving Fisher-Price to handle all of its infant, toddler, and pre-school items. Today, the Fisher-Price brand features a variety of products including Little People, Power Wheels, the Pixter digital educational system, stuffed animals (such as Elmo from Sesame Street), and related items from popular TV shows like Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants.
