NeoPets, Inc. is a subsidiary of MTV Networks, Inc., based in California. Neopets is a Virtual Pet website, offering over 160 games along with features such as messaging, auctions, and trading ' free of cost. Noepets is one of the 'stickiest' sites on the internet. With a staggering 25 million members worldwide, this site has been translated in 10 different languages. Currently they get more than 2.2 billion page views per month. Neopet's audiences, some them as young as 10 years old, spend an average of more than 6 hours every month on the site. At the Neopets website, viewers can own and interact with Neopets that fictionally exist in a land called Neopia. Users can choose from an existing archive of over 50 Noepets. Most of these pets are inspired by animals such as frogs, kangaroos and tigers. Others are based on popular fictional characters such as dragons and unicorns. A Neopet can be customized by changing its color, gender and personalities. The pet's statistics can be decided on rolling a dice; a user is given 5 chances to roll the dice and decide which set of statistics they want. Statistics include strength, Agility, Maximum Hit Points, Intelligence, and Defense. Caring for a Neopet is no easy task, apart from feeding them the user also needs to provide toys for the pets to play with, nurse them back to health if they fall sick, and even read to them. If neglected, a Neopet's happiness level will depreciate. The pets change colors to express their state of mind; they turn blue when sad or red if angry. Additional Neopet activities include completing quests and 'restocking' at virtual Neopet shops. Noepets merchandise includes door hangers, TCG cards, clothes, ring tones, sticker packs, notebooks, wall papers, plushies, board games, PSP games and trading cards. They even have a series of breakfast cereals named after them. |
