The Game Boy Advance is a sixth generation game console manufactured by Nintendo. By 2006, Nintendo had sold well over 74 million units to consumers throughout North America, Japan, Europe, and China. The best selling games for the Advance include Pokemon Ruby and Emerald, and the unit runs off of a 16.8 MHz processor with additional support for Legacy capacities. During production, the Game Boy Advance was known under the code moniker 'Project Atlantis.' It offers a 2.9 inch LCD display screen, over 32,000 colors, and intuitive use. Batteries typically last between 10 to 30 hours (AA), and the Advance weighs 140gm and measures 144.5 x 24.5 x 82 mms. It is possible to soup up the display by investing in an afterburner kit, which lights the display from within. The Advance can play games adapted to previous GameBoy consoles (such as the GameBoy Color), but it can also take on some 3D graphic capabilities. Popular 'push the envelope' games include Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. Less than a year after it was released, Nintendo made a flash memory cartridge available to boost the console's capacities. When shopping for a used Game Boy Advance online, it may make sense to ask for specs and additional warranty coverage. Fans of the system commonly refer to it by the abbreviation GBA. It is possible to connect several GBA units up to one another to participate in multi-player games. Other Nintendo type consoles, such as the GameCube, can be used to create this multi-player action. |
