The Game Boy line of handheld gaming consoles has been one of Nintendo's most recognizable products. It is one of the world's most popular and longest running game system line, selling over 120 million units around the world. The Nintendo DS is the newest handheld device by Nintendo. 'DS' stands for 'Dual Screen' and 'Developers System'. There is even the Nintendo DS Lite, which was released in 2006. The console has a clamshell form-factor very similar to the Game Boy Advance SP but with a dual screen, the lower one is a touch screen. The console weighs around 9.7oz and the physical dimensions of 148.7 x 84.7 x 28.9 mm. The console makes use of two ARM processors; an ARM946E-S as the main CPU and an ARM7TDMI that clock speeds of 67MHz and 33 MHz respectively. There is 4MB of inbuilt memory. The device has an in-built microphone and also supports Wi-fi standards, so the user can play with other DS users. The DS is also compatible with the Game Boy Advance cartridges. The small DS cartridges fit into 'Slot 1' on top of the console, while the GBA games fit into 'Slot 2', which is situated at the bottom of the device. There are over 100 games developed specially for the Nintendo DS and another 100 are to be launched. The games that are released include Super Mario 64 DS, Pokemon series, Nintendogs, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Jam with the Band, Advance Wars: Dual Strike and Metroid Prime Pinball. Play-Yan is an accessory which allows the user to watch MPEG-4 videos and listen to MP3 files from SD cards while the Rumble Pak is an accessory that vibrates to reflect an action during the game.
