Leisure Suit Larry was a controversial interactive computer game originally written and produced by Sierra. The first game in the series, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, sold over a quarter million copies in its first year of release. That said, its success was largely the result of word of mouth advertising. After Sierra developed the game, the vast majority of software publishers and retailers refused to stock the adventures of Larry Laffer's quest for de-virginization for fear of offending their clients.

In retrospect, the game was revolutionary in that it married advanced computer graphic capability with quasi-erotic content. The Leisure Suit Larry games featured very 'un-PC' commentary and controversial plotting. That said, the game's designers clearly had a sense of humor. Larry's soft-core adventures would often end with him getting beaten up and/or killed by angry patrons or infected with diseases.

The initial 1987 release of Leisure Suit Larry now retails at auctions throughout the US. Fans can also find copies of over a dozen other Leisure Suit Larry games including version five, Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work, which came out in 1991, version eight, Lust in Space, and the 2006 version, entitled Cocoa Butter.

Given the risky nature of Larry's quest, the game designers inserted deterrences for adolescents. However, the early age verification systems were easy to bypass. The game was originally concocted by designers Mark Crowe and programmers like Al Lowe.
