The Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, is an 8-bit video game console created by Nintendo. Launched in North America, Brazil, Europe, Asia, and Australia as NES, in Japan it's known as the Nintendo Family Computer, or Famicom. When released, the NES was the most successful gaming console of its time claiming to have sold over 60 million consoles worldwide.

The game controllers used for the NES featured a brick-like design with a simple yet effective four button layout. In addition, a cross-shaped D-pad was included for easy navigation. The Zapper was considered as one of the most popular special controller released for the NES; however the usage was limited to only a few games. The NES games released included all kinds of genres. Some of the most popular and sought out games included 'Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link', 'Yoshi, Wolverine', 'The Simpsons: Bartman vs. Radioactiveman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', and of course 'Super Mario Bros/ Duck Hunt'. 'Super Mario Bros/ Duck Hunt' could be played with the Zapper. When the player switched on their NES, they could choose from Mario Bros or Duck Hunt. Bartman vs. Radioactiveman was also a very popular game which was based on the popular TV series The Simpsons and was a sequel The Simpsons: Bart vs. The World.

Popular companies such as Acclaim, Capcom, Hi Tech, Konami, and Nintendo manufactured hundred of other NES games which were released. A pioneer for other gaming consoles, NES proved to be a very popular addition to the gaming industry.
