After Mario, Nintendo introduced the 'Legend of Zelda' which was released in November 23, 1998. Set in the depths of the Kokiri Forest, the plot revolves around the protagonist 'Link', a young sword-fighting hero. Link's life takes a dramatic turn when the Great Deku Tree informs him about a terrible curse placed by Ganondorf on the tree. Although, he manages to save the great tree, he's too late. The dying tree directs him to the Hyrule castle where he encounters princess Zelda. The titular character, Zelda takes control of the hero, Link, guiding him through dangerous adventures. She's gifted with magical and psychic powers. She has played multiple roles in each series, sometimes appearing as a prophet, a sage and even a wise woman. Zelda sends Link on a mission to find the three spiritual stones to save Hyrule. To get the three stones the Link must use the Ocarina of Time, gifted to him by the Princess. He uses the Ocarina, the three spiritual stones and the Song of Time to reach the Sacred Realm. The Legend of Zelda is filled with various puzzles throughout the game. Where some puzzles are critical to clear certain levels, other puzzles are optional. Throughout the game Link is inseparable from his favorite tools, the boomerang and the sling shot. Other weapons include bombs, grappling hook, bows, and the widely utilized Ocarina. The controls of the game ensure easy movement of the protagonist, despite him being a 3-D character and the realistic graphics are a treat to the eye. |
